The Tax Code

I was listening to Coast to Coast AM last night. They had a guest talking about the FairTax. It's very intriguing. Check it out when you have some time: www.fairtax.org.

  1. Didn't expect to leave two comments, but on my way out saw this post. Chinga dinga, a coast to coast fan. Cool.

If you want me to provoke debate, here's my take. Any tax based on retail sales only, no matter how seemingly progressive, is ultimately repressive for those who are wage earners.

  2. I miss the good old days when the Federal Government sold land taken from the Native Americans to finance itself (as well as tariffs).

I actually like the progressive income tax system because it places a higher tax burden on those who can more afford it. I would agree with "hook" about a retail sales tax being more repressive, though I would say that it is actually being repressive for those with meager revenues (i.e. social security recipients) and not low wage earners alone.

However, I am thankful for the multitude of services that the various governments provide me. I am also thankful to the Lord for the great many material blessings He in his goodness has provided this nation to pay for all these services. Even our political system helps this out. We could after all, be living in Zimbabwe. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/04/19/btsc.koinange.zimbabwe/index.html
